The transformation of a huge Homebase shop in Nottinghamshire into a supermarket is now in the planning stages. With the intention of providing consumers with a greater variety of options, Sainsbury’s has reached an agreement to purchase 10 Homebase shops and transform them into supermarkets as part of its Next Level Sainsbury’s concept.
There is a Homebase shop located in the Northgate Retail Park in Newark that is one of the businesses that was bought. At the moment, the town does not have a Sainsbury’s shop; the stores that are nearest to it are in Balderton, Netherfield, and Lincoln.
However, many people will miss Homebase, while others are concerned about the traffic consequences that a supermarket would bring. Residents who live in the surrounding area are thrilled to have a Sainsbury’s just outside their front door. Andrew Day, a resident who is 54 years old, said, “I use Homebase quite a lot, it’s a good store, and I like the staff, and I like the convenience that it’s there.”
“I was there only the day before yesterday.” He went on to say that he believes a great number of people would be interested in the supermarket opening in the town, and he expressed his gratitude to Sainsbury’s for conducting interviews with staff at Homebase who are now facing the possibility of losing their jobs.
On the other hand, Andrew said that traffic may already be “a nightmare” due to the fact that the River View estate, Northgate Retail Park, and other companies on the road share the same intersection. Andrew made the following statement: “My concern is the traffic and I was saying yesterday when I found out about it that River View is going to become a car park.”
Natalie Watson, who is 45 years old and a resident of the area, said, “I believe it’s fantastic news. We relocated to this location around the time of Christmas, and I was thinking that I miss having a large Sainsbury’s next to me since we used to live directly next to one, and I was familiar with the locations of everything in each aisle.
The educator continued by saying, “It’s my favorite shop, and I’m really excited about it.” In addition, a 69-year-old individual who did not desire to be identified has expressed his opinions over the new business.
He expressed his opinion: “I think we would use it a bit, as we used to use the one in Balderton when we lived there.” Each of the converted shops will have a shop floor size of around 15,000 to 40,000 square feet after they have been converted. When all of the converted stores are merged, the total amount of space that Sainsbury’s has available for trade will be roughly 235,000 square feet. A further consequence of the new sites is that about 400,000 more individuals will be within a ten-minute drive of a Sainsbury’s store.
